NEW DELHI: A day after rolling out Goods and Service Tax (GST) from the historical Central Hall of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that the new taxation system was a "Good and Simple Tax and will mark a new beginning for the Indian economy."
Addressing a huge gathering at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on occasion of Foundation Day of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, PM Modi urged Chartered Accountants to play a crucial role in the implementation of GST.
"Just like doctors don't want people to be ill to get more business, chartered accountants too need to safeguard society's economic health," the prime minister said.

"Data mining to track the blackmoney began on November 8, when demonetisation was announced. We haven't made this data public or questioned anyone yet. But we found as many as 3 lakh registered companies whose activities came under suspicion," he said, adding that the government had identified 37,000 shell companies.
